Locations, Hours and Court Conditions

96th Street RCTA - 10 Red Clay Courts

The red clay courts are located on the Hudson River, off the Hudson River Greenway (bike path), in Manhattan’s Riverside Park at approximately 96th Street. The courts can be reached by bike or foot via the pedestrian tunnels that run underneath Westside Highway at 101st and 91st Streets.

There is a free parking lot at the courts. The lot is directly off the southbound on-ramp to the Henry Hudson Parkway.

The clay courts open in April and close around Thanksgiving.  Exact dates are weather dependent.  The hours of operation below are an approximation, as opening and closing times change with daylight hours.

April: 7:00 am to 7:00 pm
May–August: 7:00 am to 8:00 pm
September: 7:00 am to 7:00 pm
October: 7:00 am to 6:00 pm
November: 7:00 am to 4:00 pm

Red clay courts are closed by rain and dry slower than other surfaces. Depending on the time of year and amount of rain, it may take between a few hours and a full dry day for the courts to reopen.  Call the RCTA Hotline for weather-related updates and opening times following rain: (212) 978-0277.

119th Street - 10 Hard Courts

The 119th Street courts are located on the promenade level of the park.  Walk down the wide staircase from 119th Street and Riverside Drive, then the courts will be visible downwards and to the right.  Or, enter the park farther south before walking or biking north to the very end of the promenade that overlooks the athletic fields.

Street parking can be found a few minutes walk from the courts on Riverside Drive or neighboring blocks.

119th Street is open for play year-round.  During the outdoor permit season, hours of operation are managed by the NYC Parks Department, which will typically mirror the schedule of the 96th Street clay courts.  However, sometimes one facility will be open when the other is not due to weather conditions or exact staffing schedules.

Players registered for private and group lessons through the RTA will receive a direct notification if there is a rainout or other cancellation of their lesson or program.

There is no way to check the status of the 119th Street courts online.

172 St Ft Washington - 10 Hard Courts

The Fort Washington Tennis courts are located on the Hudson River Greenway a block to the south of the George Washington Bridge and the Little Red Lighthouse, at approximately 172nd Street.

Street parking is available about a ten to fifteen minute walk uphill to Riverside Drive.

This is an unstaffed facility that is open all year for public use on a first-come, first serve basis.

There is no way to reserve a court or to check the status of the courts at Fort Washington.  Simply come to the courts and find an open court when conditions allow.
